About the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee

About Us

Our mission is to identify, monitor and report on legislative, regulatory and policy developments that may impact IPMI members and to help IPMI members ensure continued compliance and performance. LARAC will represent the interests of IPMI members domestically and internationally. Our objectives are to monitor and inform legislative, regulatory, and industry developments that may affect member’s business. We organize the Annual IPMI Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Seminar in Washington D.C.

Activities, Duties, and Responsibilities

 

  • Chair is responsible for organizing the speakers and agenda for each meeting.
  • Chair and Executive Director will be responsible for providing timely notifications to the Governance and Compliance Committee on any desired external communication on upcoming legislation or regulations.
  • IPMI Executive Director organizes the location and logistics for all meetings.

 

Objectives

 

  • Monitor and inform legislative, regulatory, and industry developments that may affect member’s business
  • Upon review of actions directly affecting IPMI members, the committee shall formulate and recommend the appropriate course of action and/or legislative and regulatory response to be advocated for in Washington D.C. and International Countries to the IPMI Governance and Compliance Committee.
  • To engage with and influence government agencies to prevent the promulgation of regulations, legislation or policies damaging to the precious metals industry.
  • To establish relationships with legislators and regulators and to encourage consultation with the industry when formulating and applying regulations.
  • To support the IPMI objective of close relationships with other industry groups, both in the US and internationally.
  • Organize the Annual IPMI Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Seminar in Washington D.C.

Gold price craters in worst decline since 80s, silver drops 36%

Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium all dropped on Friday.

Gold futures dropped as low as $4,700/toz before recovering some of those losses in afternoon trade only to succumb again to some late selling. Gold for delivery in April, the most active contract, closed at $4,745/toz down 11.4% or $600/toz on the day. It was the biggest intra-day decline since the early 1980s.
