Siegfried Jacob Metallwerke GmbH & Co. KG, part of the Germany-based Jacob Metal Group (JMG), has acquired Auris Noble LLC, an Akron, Ohio-based recycler and refiner of precious and rare earth metals.
According to JMG, the sellers of Auris Noble will retain minority ownership positions and continue to lead day-to-day operations in Akron.
Founded by Lou Britton in 2011, Auris Noble has focused on developing new recycling methods for difficult-to-process and recycle byproducts and residual materials.
The company’s hydrometallurgical processing capabilities have established it as a leader in recycling and refining superalloys and precious metals, notably iridium and ruthenium within its new state-of-the-art chemical hall, according to JMG.
Britton and partners Patrick Deeringer, Joe Patrick III and Joe Patrick IV have grown the company from an “at-home gold refiner” to a vertically integrated recycling company that helps its customers advance their sustainable business practices.
JMG was founded in 1953 by Siegfried Jacob and remains under ownership of the Jacob family, including second-generation member Hans-Eckhard Jacob, who has helped the firm grow to its current size.
The company employs more than 1,000 people at sites in Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, where it owns Ireland Alloys. JMG says it has served customers in North America for many years, but Auris Noble marks its first operation in the United States.
“I am proud that, despite our size, we have always remained a family business, preserving the identity and independence of each individual member company,” Hans-Eckhard Jacob says.
JMG says its latest move is expected to provide existing JMG and Auris Noble customers with expanded service offerings and numerous operational benefits globally.
“It was clear from the first time we met with Auris Noble that both organizations share a deep commitment to value-added recycling,” says Henning Reuter, managing director of JMG. “Perhaps the most important factor to us when evaluating this milestone expansion into the U.S. was the overlap in culture, long-standing values and continuous innovation. We are excited to welcome Auris Noble to our family of companies.”
Raleigh, North Carolina-based Triscend Partners served as financial advisor to Auris Noble in the transaction, while James Jolley from Smith Anderson, also based in North Carolina, served as its lead counsel.
Ute Mueller from U.K.-based Irwin Mitchell LLP served as strategic legal advisor to JMG, and Henry Alderfer from Cincinnati-based Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP served as its U.S. legal counsel.
“While our hydrometallurgical capabilities span nearly all metals, we’ve recently prioritized opportunities to develop sustainable iridium and ruthenium recycling programs," Britton says. "With JMG’s family culture, global reach and deep recycling expertise, they are the perfect match to accelerate our growth strategy and deliver even greater value to our customers and employees.
